The Challenge
During the meetings between Papageorgiou General Hospital and CERTH/INAB, the hospital’s need to manage health data of millions of patients, collected over the past 20 years, and to utilize it for research purposes, was identified. The hospital recognized the need to adopt the OMOP-CDM standard to enhance the interoperability of its data with European data sources.
The Analysis
Papageorgiou General Hospital is a valuable source of RWD, derived from daily clinical practice and can be used for research and improving healthcare services. Despite the recognized challenges in data exchange due to legal and procedural issues, the use of the federated approach through OMOP-CDM allows for data analysis without transferring the data outside the hospital, enhancing interoperability.
