The “Hackathon for Health and Wellness Crete 2024” was successfully completed


The “Hackathon for Health and Wellness Crete 2024” was successfully completed. It was held simultaneously in Heraklion and Athens, on April 20th and 21st, 2024.

The innovation marathon was an initiative during which companies, start-ups, public officials, research, and student teams collaborated with valuable mentorship to develop innovative applications, aimed at improving processes and services in the Health and Wellness sector. Thirty-one teams from across Greece registered for the competition, twenty participated on the first day (9 in Heraklion and 11 in Athens) and seventeen ultimately competed in the end.

The marathon was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Digital Governance, and the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation. The awards ceremony took place on the afternoon of Sunday, April 21st, in a hybrid format in Heraklion and Athens.

The event was greeted by the Deputy Minister of Development, Maximus Senetakis, the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis, the General Secretary of Public Administration of the Ministry of Interior, Dimitris Kirmikiroglou, the President of the Foundation for Technology and Research, Nektarios Tavernarakis, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Theophanis Matsopoulos.

Prizes were awarded to the top three teams, based on their scores from the seven-member judging committee. The awards included cash prizes (€3,500, €1,800, and €700 for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes respectively), as well as non-monetary prizes from the Science and Technology Park of Crete (STEP Crete), Thermokidita/THEA of EBEA, the Hellenic Digital Health Cluster (HDHC), and the European Digital Innovation Hubs smartHEALTH and digiGOV-innoHUB. Additionally, the team of public officials that got distinguished, was awarded commendation by the General Secretary of Public Administration of the Ministry of Interior.
