The smartHEALTH Hub participated in the seminar titled “Synergies for the future – AI in Public Services,” organized by GRNET and the GR digiGOV-innoHUB, the European Digital Innovation Hub for Digital Governance. The event, held on May 12, 2023, at the Athens Startup Business Incubator (Th.E.A.), aimed to address Artificial Intelligence (AI) topics for Greek AI community members and public sector professionals interested in developing European-wide services using AI technologies.

Represented by Prof. Dimitrios Plexousakis, Director of the Institute of Computer Science at ITI and coordinator of the smartHEALTH Hub, the hub received special mention for its role in the healthcare sector. Prof. Plexousakis emphasized the critical importance of security, privacy, and ethical principles in the healthcare domain.

During the conference, speakers addressed specific questions related to AI’s role, challenges in its implementation in public services, its contribution to transparency, and the advantages of using open-source code, open data, and open standards in public services. Prof. Plexousakis highlighted the significance of security, privacy, and ethical principles for the healthcare sector.

The event also included co-creation workshops addressing four challenges in the Public Sector using AI technologies, with results to be published in future communications and on the GR digiGOV-innoHUB hub’s page.
